Frequently Asked Questions

The initial consultation includes gait analysis, orthopaedic and neurological assessment, exercise programme planning and initial pain management treatment (as required). This will take 60 - 90 minutes.

After the initial consultation, your veterinary rehabilitation therapist will be able to advise you if your animal only requires an exercise programme which you can implement, of if further appointments for treatment may be needed. Subsequent rehabilitation sessions are approximately 30 -40 minutes.

We love pets and are very happy to treat dogs, cats, rabbits or any other small animals who may benefit from physiotherapy. Get in touch and we can discuss your pet and his/her needs!

Yes! As our rehabilitation therapist, Dr Jane McNae, is also a veterinary surgeon, she is happy to take on new patients and assess their needs if they are not under current veterinary care.  Sometimes, if further tests or treatment are needed, we will refer you back to your regular veterinary surgeon (or will happily recommend a clinic if you do not have a regular vet) for assessment.

It is important to make sure we have the correct diagnosis before treating your pet.  This is why most referrals are from veterinary surgeons who have already performed all the necessary diagnostic tests, X-rays and imaging and any required medical or surgical treatment has been started.  We liaise directly with your vet to obtain this information to ensure any specific requirements are met and we can advise your vet of progress and inform them when treatment is completed.

Regardless of whether your veterinary surgeon refers your pet to us or you seek Paws in Motion rehabilitation treatment for your pet yourself, we will communicate all information with your regular veterinary surgeon so that everyone has up to date information on your pet’s care.

Please contact us or call (93577541) and inform us as soon as possible. We do not charge for treatment cancellations where we receive more than 48 hours notice, or if Hong Kong observatory weather warnings are in force (T8, T10, Black rain). We do appreciate you telling us, as early as possible, as we may be able offer your appointment to another pet. You will be charged for cancellations made within 48 hours of your scheduled appointment.

Payment can be made by cash, cheque, bank transfer, FPS or by PayMe.

Physiotherapy for pets must be overseen by a veterinary surgeon to ensure the correct and safe rehabilitation treatments are administered appropriately to ensure goals are met.

Physiotherapists who have qualified in the human field can undergo further training to enable them to work with dogs.  Qualified veterinary technicians or nurses can also undertake further training in this field. Both groups can perform therapy on pets under the guidance or referral of a veterinary surgeon.

Veterinary surgeons should also complete further training and certification in the field of rehabilitation to work on any patients themselves using physiotherapy techniques.  Only a registered veterinary surgeon is able to safely or legally perform joint mobilisations, chiropractic or acupuncture on your pet.

Your vet should complete the referral form and attach the relevant information for us to then contact them for more information before contacting you to schedule a consultation. However, we’d love to hear from you also, as the owner, you may have additional information to give us a better understanding of your pet’s situation. Just tell us on the contact form who will be referring your pet so we can link the information we receive.
